Letter from our President
First, I would
like to thank the members who worked so hard and completed the wonderful
ornaments for the Holiday Trees at the Dunedin Fine Art Center. They will be
available for sale the first weekend of November for the Art Harvest Show in
Highland Park. I encourage you all to visit DFAC to see the beautiful trees and
enjoy the Art Fair. Next, I have a challenge. I would like each of you to dress
artistically for 30 days wearing something you made or something special that
makes you feel like an artist. Let us know how this makes you feel inspired in
your work. Last, we have so many new members, I encourage each member to design
and make a name tag and wear it to each meeting. If you haven't done so by December, we will have a 'make-it-take-it' crafting station at the December Holiday Party where you can craft a name tag. Time to think about a design.

Party
Dana Maley is looking for volunteers to assist with the Holiday Party in
December. This year she has lots of hands on activities planned to make this
the best party ever. The Holiday party will include a Gift Exchange and it's that time of year to start making your gift to give at the
Holiday Party. Each gift will be handmade by the artist, limiting cost of
materials to $15. The gift is NOT to be holiday related. This gift
will be presented in a brown paper grocery bag.

Wearable Art - TBSDG Fashion Show Meeting is here
It's that time again for our Annual Art to Wear Fashion Show
at the October 12 meeting. All of us look forward to this event and are quite
amazed at the designs our members create. This year, Bohemiannie! has graciously
offered to coordinate and MC the event.

for one dollar and magazines are 50 cents.
This is a good way to increase our treasury if you're willing to donate

Any member wishing to sell their artwork or art supplies; the table fee is $5. The room opens at 5:30 and the meeting starts at 6:30. The meeting ends at 8:30 and we must be out by 9:00.
This month, we are taking donations of Art Related DVD's for
our new lending library. Each DVD can be loaned out for the month, then brought
back to the next Meeting. We are especially interested in instructional matter.
There will be a small rental fee to check them out. Kim Sherrod will be heading
up this project. It is very successful at the Sarasota Guild. More details will
follow.

Fundraiser
Thanks to all that participated in the Fundraiser play dates and those that made and delivered ornaments to the Dunedin Fine Arts Center - including Cindie who took all the photos and ended up in none of them. Your donations are appreciated and will help recharge our dwindling treasury.
Show and Tell
It's always fun to see what our very talented members have been up to over the past months. Now that our members are returning from the North and we have so
many new members, Show and Tell will be limited to 2 items. If you have more,
present them at the next meeting. Please limit how long you talk about the item
and the process. In fairness to so many who have beautiful pieces to show, this
will speed up the process. You must sign in your work at the check-in desk
before the meeting. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please also note, the maximum is 2 items, not techniques, sessions, or outside workshops.

Oct 18 - Decorative Paper Bags with Joey Long
1pm-5pm Cost is $35, which includes the IRBC fee. Brayer, paint,
stamp and glitter! Just a smattering of
enticements for you to join friends old and new for a workshop filled with art
for those that are not blessed with the talents for making recognizable
drawings or paintings. Come play with

Supplies List:
Bring Six (6) brown grocery bags (ask for paper at the
grocery store next time), long bladed paper scissors, your favorite colors of
craft acrylic paints and a 4" brayer - the kind with detachable roller
tends for easy cleanup), spray bottle for water, and an apron.
Joey has lots of things to make designs with such as stamps, spray webbing, Pearl-Ex, glitter, Styrofoam and wonder-foam.

enriching your artistic eye and creative spirit! Develop new ways to look

optional). Explore color concepts. Take home an 18"x22"
(larger/smaller?) masterpiece suitable for quilting, framing or making into a
pillow, bag or garment panel. Photograph trunk show samples for future
project ideas!

2016 Surface Design Guild Members Show

January 5 - February 26, 2016
Opening Reception - Sunday, January 10th from 2-4pm
The Guild encourages members to get their best work together for display. Submit work that has not been
previously shown in an SDG exhibit and less than two years old. Our show will be juried by Diane Shelly,
Executive Director of Florida CraftArt, on Sunday, January 3, 2016.
The Show Committee will:
- design a pamphlet to use as invitations and for the press
- accept 2-D and 3-D work on Saturday, January 3, 2016 between 10am and 2pm. -hang show - all work will be hung at our discretion on January 4th
- coordinate and hold an opening reception on Sunday, January 10th from 2-4pm
- take down show on February 27th…at which time members will be required to pick up their work from the library between the hours of 11am - 1pm.
SDG Members will:
- pay $25 entry fee per member for up to 2 pieces of work
- sign guild contract
- deliver work to Clearwater Main library on Saturday, January 2nd between the hours of 10am and 2pm. No work can be accepted after this date.
- provide ready to hang work
- provide label information & a short artist statement describing your piece in a Microsoft Word format to aida@tampabay.rr.com by Saturday, January 2nd
- give credit if you use others patterns, images or artwork or name the instructor if you did it in a workshop
- if your work is not juried into the show, it must be picked on on Monday, January 4th
- you may offer your art for sale, but if you do, you must provide contact information as the sale would be between you and the buyer - SDG, nor the library will be involved in any sales
- work can't be taken down until after the show closes on February 26th
- volunteer to provide food for opening reception
- send out e-vites and invitations to your mailing lists.

Felter’s Fling 2015 – the US feltmakers extravaganza from Kathy Hayes
A gathering of feltmakers occurs every two years. They descend up the event known as Felter’s Fling which began in 2003, as means of sharing feltmaking skills, seeking new insight and personal development. This event takes place in the northeastern part of the US. Participants come from all points in the US, Canada, New Zealand and England. During the 7 day event there are workshops, a gallery of student works, a fashion show and presentations from staff in the evening.
The instructional staff is international. While they provide instruction to the creatively hungry students, they consider themselves mentors. Their role is to show techniques and offer instruction to further a feltmakers development. What better way to learn a craft than hands on instruction to take home and build upon in their own work?
Many of the participants have come to develop lasting friendships via the medium of felt. When they return to Fling there is a kindred spirit and joy of sharing. There is a buzz in the air that last for days. It is like a reunion of show and share what they learned at the previous Felter’s Fling and how they have further developed with that information.
At the end of the week long extravaganza everyone is exhausted from the late nights in the studios but the participants’ part ways taking with them new ideas and embracing exploration. Their friends old and new will return faithfully to share as they grow in their feltmaking skills.

AMAZING TYPOGRAPHIC PATTERNS INTO THE PROJECT “TYPETILES”
TypeTiles 01 and 02 is an amazing project by Heloisa Etelvina, Marina Chaccur and Tereza Bettinardi.
These three artists and designers had fun playing with typographical ornaments to create printed "tiles" with wonderful patterns. Obviously, the tiles can be combined in multiple ways, even to be reproduced on posters and leaflets.

experimental venues, thus supporting individual artistic creativity while
