May 2015 Newsletter

I was very happy to see all the beautiful pieces of art that our members dropped off for the Dunedin Fine Arts Center show coming up at the end of May. If you didn't get your piece in yet, you still have until May 11 to submit your work to the staff at the Fine Arts Center. Make sure you print out the form from our newsletter, completed with your work. The room for our show is very large, so there is plenty of space for everybody. Cindie Townley

Quote for the month:
All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.  M. Buber

Welcome to our new members:  Nancy Woodling, Teresa Mott, Sandra Schwartz, Candy Rowen and Linda Valentino.

To Those who came to the (workshop)  play date on Sunday April 19th, 2015, Gail Crotty sends this message

I want to thank you for coming to play with the melted crayons. It was great to see  the variations to the method that individuals came up with. One of the joys of doing anything creative is watching the development of other people's ideas.
It was a pleasure to play with all of you!  Check out the pictures that follow.

SHOW AND TELL from the last meeting.

Linda Valentio, one of our newest members says:
I am a new member of your guild. and I wanted to show you the latest silk pictures I have recently made. They were sold by the time I finished them. I am working on one for the St. Pete Bread company but not totally done as of yet... I'll send a picture when i finish.  Thank you for accepting me; I hope to learn a lot.

Gallery Opening: Hugo Porcaro

Gulfport artist, Hugo Porcaro will be featured in FAB Fiber gallery during the month of May. A working artist in the area since the 1980's, his paintings are whimsical, colorful  painted objects. A portrait of the Clintons hangs in the Presidential Library and other works are in many Tampa Bay area collections.

Although he’s studied at Ringling College of Art and Design, the Portland School of Art and Design and is an Eckerd College grad, Hugo’s splashy style is reminiscent of  folk art. He uses whatever materials are at hand, resulting in contemporary expressions of traditional folk art forms. Hugo’s cheerful fluid style combines busy patterns and bright colors that will grace walls and gardens. His style is distinctly Hugo and he’ll unveiled some of his latest projects at the opening which was on Friday,  May 1 at 6 p.m. The exhibit continues through May 31 during regular shop hours.
